Developed by 19 international participants, the Ecohouse was designed in 6 weeks and fabricated and assembled in 8 weeks with support from experts and industry partners. The Ecohouse V01 Prototype is the collective final project of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia’s (IAAC) 2018–2019 Master of Advanced Ecological Buildings programme (MAEB).

The programme is based on a “learning by living” approach, in which students reside at Valldaura Labs for 11 months, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable architecture through direct engagement with the complete seasonal cycle. At the end of each academic year, the students collaboratively design and construct a full-scale building as the programme’s final project.

Marziah Zad was the Academic Coordinator and Design Guidance lead for the project, mentoring the students throughout the process and guiding both the design development and the fabrication of the Ecohouse from concept to execution.
