The Farmanieh Project presents an alternative design for a residential tower garden on a densely wooded site. The goal was to introduce a pure, minimal form that would interfere as little as possible with the existing garden, while still allowing for 360-degree views of the surroundings. A circular form was chosen to fulfill this requirement. The structural system revolves around a central core, while the residential spaces are composed of boxes that also serve a structural function. Each unit has its own private courtyard on the upper floors, and several units are designed as duplexes.

The project is located in Tehran’s winding garden-alleys, which, due to current urbanization policies, will soon be populated with high rises and residential towers. The design strategy was to develop a project that not only does not marginalize the unique nature of the garden alley context but will actually empower it through creating an architectural paradigm that will develop a specific cultural identity for the area. The result is a higher degree of association between the built and natural environment, lightening the visual load of the building, developing a connection with the urban context, and the building.
