Regensburg, one of Germany’s most immigrant-friendly cities, is rich in history and culture, highlighting the need for public spaces that foster social events and cultural exchange. This project aims to revitalize an underused district by prioritizing pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and abundant green spaces.
The focal point of this project is social connectivity and cultural interaction. The community will be pedestrianized, with slow mobility to encourage engagement and create a pollution-free district. Transforming unused spaces—primarily on ground floors and between blocks—will offer opportunities for cultural expression and intercultural engagement.
The design will support community activation and celebrate neighborhood identity through organized social events. This project also embraces a hybrid relationship between nature and culture, encouraging seasonal planting and care of gardens that reflect Regensburg’s identity.
Another key feature is inclusive circulation; the design maintains the natural slope of the site, ensuring no height changes between sidewalks and roads, thereby enhancing accessibility for all.
